Survey of Black Opinion, Continued • A majority of blacks believe they face discrimination in employment and residence, only 1/3 of whites agree • 20% of blacks think blacks are better off than they were 5 years ago; a majority of whites think blacks are better off
NYTIMES: Race and Genetics “No matter that the link between I.Q. and those particular bits of DNA was unconfirmed, or that other high I.Q. snippets are more common in Africans, or that hundreds or thousands of others may also affect intelligence, or that their combined influence might be dwarfed by environmental factors. Just the existence of such genetic differences between races, proclaimed the author of the Half Sigma blog, a 40-year-old software developer, means “the egalitarian theory,” that all races are equal, “is proven false.” “
NYTIMES: Racial Bias in Foster Care • “The white social worker looked at the dark spots on the black child's body and assumed the youngster had been beaten. The family denied it, but the social worker insisted. • “It turned out the child had ''Mongolian spots'' -- harmless skin blotches common among black children. The social worker's mistake was discovered before the parents got into trouble. • “But researchers and policymakers say such episodes help explain why black, Hispanic and other minority children in the United States are far more likely than white youngsters to be taken from their homes and placed in foster care.”
Detroit Dance Parties • “A local DJ and party promoter retreated Thursday from a plan to sponsor a bash that would let "light-skinned" black women into a downtown club for free. But the "Light Skin Libra Birthday Bash" at Club APT on Woodward Avenue turned out to be a bashing -- of promoter Ulysses "DJ Lish" Barnes after word of the unusual party spread on the Internet. “ • "I didn't mean to offend anyone," he said. "I had planned a party for other shades (of black women). We were going to take a shade of color each week. Next week was going to be a party for 'Sexy Chocolate' and the week after that 'Sexy Caramel.'"

I'm so sick of hearing about racism. The whites alive today never owned slaves and the blacks alive today were not slaves so why do we still owe the black man a living? If you are black you get food stamps, AFDC, lower interest rates at the bank on loans, more financial help at colleges, the list goes on and on.”
