  21. Start by Looking in the Law School Handbook! Many questions, especially of an academic nature, may be answered in the student handbook Attendance. A limited number of classes may be missed. Also, professors may have a less lenient attendance policy. Always check the professor’s syllabus! For information on Grading and Exams, please look at the Handbook.
  22. Honor Code All students must comply with the Honor Code You are required to acknowledge your compliance with the Honor Code at the time of exams Honor Code is available on Law School website Please make sure you turn in the Honor Code pledge cards you received in your Orientation material today.

The Law School email server, including use of email addresses and distribution lists, can only be used for messages pertaining to the official business of the Law School and matters related to the Law School community.
  24. Some Basic Rules You Just Need to Know
  25. Parking Coliseum side of the building. In addition to the UA hangtag, get a Law hangtag! You need it to park at the Law School during athletic events. Parking attendants will aggressively ticket. On game days, they will tow! You must be in the “Law Only” parking before 5 pm Friday before home football games.
  26. Class Attendance Class attendance is required. You may miss class only for a VERY GOOD CAUSE. See the Student Handbook. Once you exceed the allowed number, you will be withdrawn or receive an F. A professor’s policy can be more strict than the Handbook. Professors will specify their policies in their syllabi. Professors take roll in class.
  27. Electronics Laptop use is generally allowed in class Faculty members may restrict use of electronic devices through notice in the syllabus. During class, students may only use electronic devices for academic reasons. Think about social media in light of your new status as a legal professional
  28. Lockers Please do not “homestead” a locker. If you are dissatisfied with your locker, please see Brenda McPherson (room 257) for options. Putting your belongings in another person’s locker, even if it appears unused, creates problems. In the Spring, you can sign up for new lockers.
  29. Student Bar Application www.alabar.org If your application is received in Montgomery within 60 days of the first day of fall classes you do not have to pay an application fee. You must register with the Alabama State Bar to participate in some clinics and to get a Third-Year Practice Card. Records office has fingerprint cards – can be done at UAPD Records office can notarize – do not sign until there There will be another meeting on this If you are going to another state, check its rules
  30. Exams Exams must be taken at the regularly scheduled time except under extraordinary circumstances. Arrive late = no extra time Fail to show = grade of “F” is the usual penalty
  31. Examsoft Software which limits computer use Most professors require it You turn in a “flash drive” Download from examsoft.com/alabamalaw Law School purchases it for students
  32. Grading Each semester, you will be issued an anonymous number. The number will be located on the Law School website on your Student Information Page at http://www.law.ua.edu/students/info Exams are graded anonymously. Your anonymous number will change each semester. You will not otherwise ID yourself on an exam. Please double-check! Someone else could get your A?
