  3. At times, we may have to do another step before we can begin to combine like terms and add or subtract • Recall, your order of operations • PEMDAS

  4. Distributive Property • If we have to use the distributive property, we will multiply EACH term by the coefficient preceding the groups of terms • Then, we may add and subtract similar to before • What to keep in mind; • 1) Multiply each term • 2) Utilize properties of exponents • 3) Combine like terms using your vertical method
