Country Report: My Country in brief • Land area:1,648,195 square KM • Iran is located in the south-west Asia among middle-east countries • Iran is bounded on the north byTurkmenistan, the Caspian Sea,Azerbaijan and ArmeniaOn the south by The Persian Gulf and Oman SeaOn the east by Pakistan and AfghanistanOn the west byTurkey and Iraq • Population : about 65,540,000 • Capital : Tehran • Official Religion : Islam • Official Language : Farsi • Unit of currency : Rial($ US 1=8400 Rials)

Country Report: Acquaintance with the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI ) Functions Statistical system in Iran is a semi-centralized system .By law, Statistical Centre of Iran is the responsible body for production and coordination of statistical information in the country.There are also other organizations which produce statistics related to their own field of work, like Central Bank of the I.R. of Iran. • Implementing national censuses and sample surveys in economic and social fields. • Preparing the statistics required for the planning. • Preparing and updating statistical frames. • Processing, analyzing, and publishing statistical data obtained from censuses and surveys. • Compiling national accounts and price indices. • Organizing a statistical documentation centre. • Rendering statistical services to the public and private sectors. • Establishing Statistical definitions, Concepts, Criteria and Classifications. • Number of staff: about 600 persons

Country Report : ISIC and CPC • ISIC Rev.3 updated - In 1994, Because of the changes in the Social and economic conditions, - In 2001, Because of General Census of Establishment in 2002, • The Updated ISIC has : - 18 Sections (The Category R entitled “Central Offices and Departments”) was added - 63 divisions (Changes in division 50 1- adding 6 new codes (516-518 and 527-259) 2- eliminating 2 codes (513 and 523)) -166 groups • The Updated ISIC is used : - In National Censuses, - By 9 departments and Bureaus of the SCI for implementing Statistical Surveys

  7. CPC Rev.1 is used. • CPC is used by : - 4 departments of the SCI for implementing Statistical Surveys. - Some ministries such as : Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industries and Mining, Ministry of Agriculture and Iran Customs Administration.

Duties of the Department of Statistical Definitions and Standards Conductingresearches for preparing National Statistical Standards Standardization of statistical methods used for implementing statistical survey Preparing, presenting and updating Statistical concepts and definitions required for the statistical surveys of the country’s statistical system Establishing statistical classifications required for implementing statistical surveys in different subject matters Analyzing and establishing statistical concepts, definitions and classifications Analyzing and confirming statistical surveys in different steps by cooperating with other other departments of the SCI Disseminating prepared National statistical standards Supervising the application of the compulsory national statistical standards Encouraging administrative organizations to apply statistical standards Analyzing and determining educational standards and human force’s quality require for the statistical units of administrative organization Instructing prepared statistical standards Cooperating with other SCI’s departments to do their duties perfectly
