  2. Source A is from “The British Welfare State 1900-1950” by Sydney Wood published in 1982. Source A It was not only evacuation that brouht together sections of society who in peacetime had little to do with one another. The armed forces gathered together men from different classes; bombs fell on the rich as well as the poor; wartime industry attracted into it women who in peacetime might never have considered such work. • Why did the Second World War, 1939-1945, change people’s attitude towards poverty? It had revolutionary ideas. It suggested that society could fight the five giants of poverty. It also said that people should be free from certain things like want and disease.
