  3. Let’s start with some ADDITION STEPS for ADDING 1) Look at the signs 2) Same signs – ADD example  -5 + -2 = -7 3) Different signs – SUBTRACT example  -2 + 10 = 8 remember you take the sign of the larger integer

  4. 3 + -10 = -7

  5. -33 + -78 = -111

  6. 0.67 + -1.5= -0.83

  7. -¼ + 6/8 = ½

  8. Everyone’s Fav…. SUBTRACTION STEPS for SUBTRACTING • Change subtraction to addition • - 6 – 8 • - 6 + -8 or • - 5 – (- 9) • - 5 + 9 2) Same signs – ADD example  - 6 + -8 = -14 3) Different signs – SUBTRACT example  -5+ 9 = 4 remember you take the sign of the larger integer

  13. Now on to the easier stuff…. MULTIPLICATION STEPS for MULTIPLYING • Positive x Positive = Positive • Negative x Positive = Negative • Negative x Negative = Positive IN OTHER WORDS… • Same Sign = Positive • Different Signs = Negative

  15. 2 (100) = 200

  16. -4 × -1 × -2= -8

  18. -32 = -3 × -3 9

  20. Exponent Rules with Negative Integers • Even exponents = POSITIVE • Odd exponents = NEGATIVE

  21. Last but NOT Least…. DIVISION STEPS for DIVIDING • Positive ÷ Positive = Positive • Negative ÷ Positive = Negative • Negative ÷ Negative = Positive IN OTHER WORDS… • Same Sign = Positive • Different Signs = Negative
