  2. Akhmedkhan Abu- Bakar was born in 1931 in the village of Kubachi, which is in Dakhadayev region in Dagestan. He graduated from the Moscow Literature Institute named after M. Gorky and later the script writers courses.

  3. For sometime he worked as a journalist in the republican newspaper the “The Lenin Banner”, editor–in-chief of the Darghin anthology “Druzhba”, and the executive secretary of the board of directors of the Council of Writers of Dagestan.

  4. His first publications appeared in 1949 in the newspaper “The Collective Farm Banner” and later in the anthology the “Druzhba”. In 1954 his first book of poetry in the Darghin Language “The Glow” was published. And it was followed by a great number of publications.

  5. But soon he found out that his vocation was in writing prose. His first major great book work, which made him known beyond the boundaries of Dagestan was the novel “The Darghin Girls”. It was a product of his deep love for his people and his native mountains.

  6. In his works , Akhmedkhan Abu- Bakar widely used lyrical and romantic means of narration. He revived interest in oriental stylistic traditions.

Among his best books are “The Snow Man”, “The sun in the Eagle Nest”, “Highlanders at Leisure”, “Necklace for my Serminaz”, “Mummy, Light the Sun”, etc.

  8. He is also well-known as the author of many script plays. These are scenarios of the films “Adam and Heva”, “ Necklace for my Beloved”, “The Mystery of the Cubachi Bracelet,” “The Cheetah” and others. He also wrote plays that were successfully staged at Dagestan theaters: “Men in Burkas”, “A Stone Boy”.

  11. His first film was “Clouds are Leaving the Sky” and the last “The Mystery of the Hand-written Koran”. This film became a prize-winner of a number of international contests but wasn’t appreciated in our Republic. A. Abu-Bakar didn’t see this film on a large screen- he died before this film was released.
