  1. Course 2 Probability Basics 7.9 and 7.10

  2. Theoretical Probability Theoretical Probability is the ratio of the number of ways an event can occur to the number of possible outcomes. • The Theoretical Probability of an event is the expected probability and can be found with a formula.

  3. Theoretical Probability • The Formula for finding theoretical probability is: Number of possible favorable outcomes Total number of possible outcomes

  4. Experimental Probability • Experimental Probability is an estimated probability based on the relative frequency of positive outcomes occurring during an event. • The Experimental Probability of an event is determined by carrying out a simulation or an experiment.

  5. Experimental Probability • The formula for finding experimental probability is: Number of times desired outcomes occur Number of trials in the experiment

  6. Simple Event • One outcome or a collection of outcomes.

  7. Tree Diagrams • A tree diagram is a graphical way to show all possible outcomes in a situation or experiment.
