  2. Study Guide Questions Addressed 4. What was the Armenian Genocide? Why did it happen? How does it relate to the new concept of Total War? Possible Short Answer/Essay Questions: 12. Historians identify World War One as the first modern war. This is due to a number of factors like the embracing of the total war, the new mass destruction weapons, the willingness to sacrifice millions of lives for little land gain, having war target civilians in their attacks, and the amount of control exerted by the governments on the home front to put everything into the war. Be able to examine in depth the above concepts with historical examples and evidence like primary source quotes, statistics, etc…

  3. Essential and Guiding Questions: • How was World War I different than most wars that preceded it (both on the battlefields and on the home front)? • What were the consequences of the war when it ended? • Why did this conflict become so widespread? • What was the course of WWI?

Materials: • Photocopied 2012 Armenian Genocide Student Lesson Plan with Attached Graphic Organizer • Ms. Barben’s Defining Genocide and the Armenian Genocide Powerpoint Presentation • “The Armenian Genocide” DVD • Supplemental Reading on the Armenian Genocide uploaded on Ms. Barben’s Teacher Page to be accessed to fill in gaps in graphic organizer

You are to takes notes on this material in the graphic organizer on the LEFT SIDE of the graphic organizer. • Homework: Work on your World War One Poetry Analysis Homework.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 • Class: We are going to watch the documentary “The Armenian Genocide” and write down examples in the RIGHT SIDE of the graphic organizer for how the events of the Armenian Genocide follows the eight stages of all genocides. • Homework: Work on your World War One Poetry Analysis Homework.
