  3. Jump Jim crow This song was written by Thomas Dartmouth Rise. He was a struggling actor who preformed short solo skits between play scenes. Some say he came across and old black slave singing a verse from the song others say it was a stable boy know one really knows where the song originated from. His song and dance routine was a success that took him from Louisville to Cincinnati to Pittsburg to Philadelphia and then to New York in 1832. L

  4. What was Jim Crow? Jim Crow was the name of a racial caste system. Between 1877 and the mid 1960’s Jim crow laws were not just anti racial they seemed to be a way of life. Thomas first appeared on stage as Jim crow in 1828 as a stereotypical black character. He was one of the first performer to wear blackface makeup. He darkened his skin with burnt cork they all so later used grease paint or shoe polish. They often would wear woolly wigs, gloves, tailcoats, or ragged clothes.

  5. Laws • Some of the examples of Jim crow laws included public schools public places and public transportation. The segregation of restrooms and restaurants for whites and blacks.Even the U.S military was separated between whites and blacks.
