  3. Agenda • Discuss papers • Talk about assignment/project • Assignment 1 is due Tuesday and available online

  4. Papers • One a piece of paper write down your thoughts about the following: • What is the difference between accidental & essential complexities? • Why is software engineering hard?

  5. Projects and Assignments • Personal computers vs. labs • I need to know so we can put the right software • Semester project will be on an open source software of your choice • Restrictions: • Sourceforge engineering/scientific • Java • > 20 classes

  6. Assignment 1 • Use Eclipse • IDE – Integrated Development Environment • Follow the step by step instructions in Assignment 1 • Download Eclipse if you don’t have it, or use Lab computer that has it • Choose a sourceforge project • Download it, build it, and run it

  7. Sourceforge

  8. Find a project in Engineering or Science

  9. Browse and select

  10. Create project from source

  11. Read and work out dependencies

  12. Tuesday • I will post readings on Project Management • Assignment 1 is due at 5pm by email
