  3. Nouns-Recycling • A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. • We should all be a part of recycling. Recycling helps to minimize the drain on the limited resourcesof our planet. It also helps to minimize the presence of waste materialsin our communities. Items such as glass, paper, and plastics are being reused to create new products; they do not end up taking up space in a landfill. Choosing to reuse and recycle items also makes it possible to cut the cost of producing products significantly. It saves energy and lowers cost. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-importance-of-recycling.htm http://www.treeline.co.uk/recycling/

  4. Verbs-Running • Verbs are doing words that can express a physical action, a mental action, or a state of being. • My son, David, loves to run. He runs with the Bainbridge High School Cross Country Team. They train five days a week. Training includes running 5-8 miles(for distance), hills(for endurance), and intervals(for speed). http://livefromlaquinta.com/2012/01/11/a-fit-20-12-lets-run-a-5k/

  5. Adjectives-My Dream Car • Adjectives describe nouns by answering one of these three questions: What kind is it? How many are there? Which one is it? An adjective can be a single word, a phrase, or a clause. • My dream car is a Subaru Forester. The car hasbeautiful fire-engine red paint that seems to shine. It is like having a car and a truck together. The gas mileage is forty miles per gallon the highway and thirty-six miles per gallon in town. It has a really great price, too. http://www.motortrend.com/photo_gallery/suvs/1206_2012_subaru_forester_photo_gallery/photo_06.html

  6. Adverbs-Snorkeling • Adverbs are words that modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. • Snorkeling is very fun. It is the practice of swimming slowly on or through the water wearing a diving mask, snorkel, and usually fins looking at things under the water. With the Gulf of Mexico quite close to Bainbridge, there are many fun places to snorkel. You can see shells, crabs, fish, and seaweed. Sometimes you may see a sea turtle or a sting ray. http://www.halfpricetourtickets.com/key-west-attractions/snorkeling-key-west/

  7. Prepositions-Wild Flowers • A preposition links nouns, pronouns, and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of the preposition. A preposition usually indicates the temporal, spatial or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence. • Wild flowers are very beautiful. Look along the side of the road, and you will see blooms from wild flowers. Wild flowers can also be found in the woods. Wild flowers can be found everywhere. http://thegypsytraveljournal.blogspot.com/2011/07/coming-of-wild-flowers.html

  8. Interjections-Commercials • An interjection is a word added to a sentence to convey an emotion or a sentiment such as surprise, disgust, joy, excitement, or enthusiasm. It is not grammatically related to any other part of the sentence. • Commercials sometimes contain interjections. A few that come to mind are (1)Ouch! These mosquitoes are biting me. (2) Help! I have fallen, and I can’t get up. , and (3) Wow! That outfit looks great! http://segullah.org/daily-special/no-mosquitoes-allowed/

  9. Conjunctions-Do List • Conjunction: A conjunction joins together words, phrases, or clauses. Examples: and, or, but • Where is my “Do List”? I have looked on the counter, but it was not there. I have looked over my desk, and I did not find it. My purse has been turned topsy-turvy, but I still have not found my “Do List”. There it is! I found it on the refrigerator clipped on the “Honey Do List” magnet. Personal graphics by Marjorie Brock

  10. Pronouns-Beverly • Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun. Examples: he, she, me, it, they, them, we, him, her,… • My best friend is Beverly. She is a retired school teacher. Activities such as relaxing at her home on Spring Creek close to Lake Seminole, walking her dog, and working with flowers fill the day for her. Sometimes we are able to enjoy fries at McDonald’s after a day when she substitutes at Hutto Middle School. http://fabmagazineonline.com/fab-essentials-10-things-a-girl-needs-to-feel-alive/bff-ani/

  11. Gerunds-Playing the Piano • A gerund is a noun made from a verb by adding "-ing." The gerund form of the verb "read" is "reading“ and “hunt” is “hunting”. • Playing the piano has always been one of my dreams. I took piano lessons when I was younger, but when I went to college, I stopped. With career and family, finding time to practice was hard. Hopefully when I retire, I will accomplish my dream. http://www.cooperpiano.com/Portals/99598/images/playing-piano2.jpg

  12. Infinitives-Flower Gardens • Infinitives are the "to" form of the verb. The infinitive form of "learn" is "to learn." • I want to grow beautiful flower gardens in my yard. These flower gardens would be nice to see, but they would be beneficial in other ways, too. They would attract butterflies and birds to my yard. http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/butterfly-garden-firstimage.jpg

  13. Participles- 101 Dalmatians • A participle is a form of a verb that functions as an adjective( barking dog, hissing snake, crying baby, screeching tires) • On the movie, 101 Dalmatians, the dogs would signal by barking. When Cruella was up to no good, the sound of barking dogs echoed across the land. This would warn the other dogs of the danger. http://www.mouthsofmums.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/101_dalmations_comps_627x430-625x428.jpg
