  1. PROPOSED SECURITY MEASURES David Gourley Elementary

  2. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • Parents will need to drop students off at school doors and will not be allowed access to hallways and classrooms.

  3. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • A temporary barrier will be put in place to remind visitors that the building has restricted access. A request has been made to the district to install a permanent wall across the front entryway.

  4. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • The lunchroom will no longer be accessible to parents during breakfast and lunch.

  5. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • Kindergarten and pre-school students will need to be dropped off at the outside classroom doors. If students are dropped off at the front doors, they will need to walk themselves to the classroom. School personnel can help with this transition if available.

  6. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • Teachers will be required to leave the names of volunteers in the office on the day they are expected. These individuals will need to check in at the office and receive a visitor pass before proceeding to the classroom.

  7. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • All students should enter and exit the building using their grade level doors. On “in” days, all students should enter the building using the breakfast doors on the north side of the building and proceed to the multipurpose room where supervision will be provided. Only late arriving students should enter through the front doors.

  8. School Hallways, Classrooms, and Common Areas will be Closed to all Non-School Personnel • All school personnel will be required to stop anyone in the building not displaying a district badge or visitor pass and redirect them to the office.

  9. Scan Bars Will be Installed on Relocatable Classroom Doors • Classrooms will remain locked at all times and will only be accessable with a school personnel badge or key.

  10. Video Camera Surveillance • Granite District has plans to install video camera surveillance equipment in the building. • Expected time frame is within the next 3-4 months.

  11. Emergency Procedures • Emergency procedures will be reviewed with staff members. • Emergency drills will be conducted monthly as outlined by Granite District Policy including fire drills, lock down drills, and earthquake drills. • The school is currently working to develop an emergency preparedness manual which will include procedures for checking out students to parents in the event it should become necessary to send them all home.

  12. Playground Security • Further investigation will be done on how we can also improve the security of the playground. • This may result in less convenient access points.

  13. Parent Support • Respect the policies that are being put in place and understand they are there to safe guard students and staff. • Help educate friends and neighbors in the community. • Remind your children to use the correct doors as they enter and exit the building.
