  2. Basic Information about Teaching English • Job Title: English Teacher • Salary Range: $38,000-$70,000 • Industry: Education • Responsibilities: Child care, developing lesson plans, community service, administering SOLs and Benchmarks, attending professional development and/or staff meetings.

How to Become an English Teacher • Step 1: Graduate from High School with diploma or GED. • Step 2: Acceptance to a 4 year university or college that provides a credible Education/Teacher Certification Program. University of Choice: Eastern Michigan University • Step 3: Declare a Major and a Minor • Major: English • Minor: French

How to Become an English Teacher • Step 4: Maintain minimum GPA of 3.0 while completing pre-requisites for the College of Education. • Step 5: Apply and become accepted into the university's College of Education. • Step 6: Meet all requirements in order to become a candidate for the Student Teaching Internship. • Step 7: Complete Student Teaching Internship.

  5. How to Become an English Teacher • Step 8: Register [for] and complete MTTC exams. • Step 9: Meet all remaining requirements in order to graduate from EMU’s College of Education. • Step 10: Apply for a teaching license through the state of Michigan. • Step 11: Apply for teaching jobs.
