KAWSWho We Are Organized in 1996 in response to the need to • provide quality informational and educational materials on the function and value of wetlands, streams, and riparian areas • demonstrate how they could be enhanced, restored, and protected; and • encourage closer cooperation between agencies, organizations, and groups

  3. KAWSWho We Are • KAWS is a 501(c)(3) educational public charity reaching a broad spectrum of individuals, groups, and governmental agencies to improve the wetlands and streams they own or control. •  Currently, we have over 100 member organizations and over 500 individual members

  31. KAWSWRAPS Ability • Established Accounting System • Existing Financial Management Policy and Procedures Manual and a Procurement Policy and Procedures Manual that meets the requirements for non-profit organizations with EPA federal grants.   • All payments and costs tracked by a CPA

  32. KAWSWRAPS Ability • Financial resources necessary to allow activity to continue for approximately four months while awaiting payments. • KAWS has been involved with grants since 1996. KAWS presently has 7 WRAPS grants with KDHE and grants with the State Conservation Commission, Kansas Water Office, and US F&W Service

  33. KAWSWRAPS Ability • KAWS has demonstrated that its procedures comply with the grant conditions. • The Executive Director reviews and certifies that all procedures and special provisions are met.

  34. KAWSWRAPS Ability • KAWS is presently sponsoring: • Upper Wakarusa Watershed WRAPS, • Middle Kansas River WRAPS and, • Lower Kansas River WRAPS. • KAWS has 2 existing grants as a WRAPS State Wide Service provider and provides assistance to 15 WRAPS SLTs..

  35. KAWSWRAPS Ability • What will KAWS do for the Middle Neosho? • KAWS will hire a part-time WRAPS coordinator to assist the SLT in implementation of the WRAPS grant. • Doug Blex, Chapter Coordinator will assist the WRAPS Coordinator with your project and be available for SLT meetings.

(con’t) • KAWS Marketing coordinator will assist the WRAPS Coordinator as needed • KAWS GIS consultant will conduct watershed analysis as requested. • KAWS engineering firm will design and install streambank and wetland demonstration projects as requested.

  37. Summary • KAWS has worked with securing, and administering grant funds since inception in 1996. • We have a contract and payment system in place to protect projects and meet audit requirements. • We have an online project tracking system to provide proper grant reports

  38. Summary Continued • Worked with WRAPS for 4 years and have been members of KDHE WRAPS subcommittees. • We work directly with most of the agency and organizations in the state • We have a team to support our coordinators. • Committed to Conservation!
