  1. Reflective Journal #3:Moral Distress Rels 300 / Nurs 330 17 October 2013

  2. How do reflective journals relate to our course objectives? • Reflective journaling supports your capacity for moral consciousness (instead of moral blindness or moral complacency) • Reflective journaling fosters self-awareness of your own moral values, perspectives, beliefs and choices • Reflective journaling provides an opportunity to contemplate and learn from your own experiences of moral uncertainty, ambiguity, dissent, and moral distress 300/330 - appleby

  3. Recognizing Moral Distress Have you ever been in a situation that has caused you moral distress? What was it like? How did you feel? What could you have done? What did others do? Did you feel pressure to conform? Or, not cause waves? Ethical distress involves situations in which women / men / nurses / students: • Cannot fulfill their ethical obligations and commitments, or • Fail to pursue what they believe to be the right course of action, or • Fail to live up to their own expectations of ethical choices 300/330 - appleby
