UPK functionality • UPK allows for the easy creation of training presentations, project documentation and support materials • Through UPK, interactive training walkthroughs can be created in a short amount of time • UPK material can be developed in multiple languages (as long as the UPK Developer software is installed for each additional language)

  3. Downloading and Installing UPK • Log into Metalink. • Select the "Patches and Updates" tab. • On the "Patches & Update" screen under the "Updates" portion of the screen, select the "edelivery.com" tab. • Follow the instructions on the next screen by entering your Name, Company Name, and Email address, etc. and select "Continue".

  4. Downloading and Installing UPK, cont. • On the "Media Pack" search screen, select the following parameters: Product - User Productivity Kit, and Platform - Microsoft Windows (32-Bit). Select "Go". • On the next screen, select "Oracle UPK Release Two" (the last selection on the page), then select "Continue". • Select "Download". The Product should read B23334-03. JULY-22-2006. • Save this file to your hard disk. • To install UPK, run the setup.exe file found in the UPK\B30765-01\Eng-Euro directory and follow the onscreen instructions.

Working with the Outline Editor To start organizing the content in a presentation, create Modules, Lessons and Topics as follows: • Create a new Module by using Insert > Module • Create a new Lesson by using Insert > Lesson • Create a new Topic by using Insert > Topic • These will show up in the Outline box.

  7. Modify Content • To create an infoblock to add detailed Content information to each topic, right-click the topic and choose Edit > Infoblock. You can choose any available infoblock, and those contents will be displayed in the Concept box on the main screen.

  9. Start the UPK program • The first dialogue box prompts you to choose a title. Select the Oracle 11i option.

  10. Recording • In order to create interactive animated walkthroughs, UPK uses the Record function to capture any actions you perform while recording. • Right-click the desired topic and choose Record. The Recorder dialogue box will appear. Press the PrintScreen button to start recording, and also after every action performed (i.e. mouse clicks, dragging, keystrokes, etc.). Click Finish when the recording is complete. • The Recorder toolbar (below) reflects each step being recorded, and identifies the next screenshot and last recorded event.

Topic Preview Once you are satisfied with your presentation, there are four different preview modes that can be used for viewing: • See it! mode allows the user to watch the actions necessary to perform a specific task. • Try it! mode allows the user to perform the steps for a task. • Know it! mode asks the user to perform a task and grades his or her performance. • Do it! mode allows the user to interact with the live application. • In order to view the developed content in any of these modes, right-click on the topic desired in the Outline box, and select the mode under the Preview menu.

  15. Publishing content • Once the content is ready, select Tools > Publish Content. There is an option to publish all modules or only the selected items. • Next, choose the desired output format(s). There are many options, including a full Player package, HTML site, Training Guide, and a Role Usage report.

  16. Publishing content, cont. • Select the Publishing Options. Confirm those settings and click on Publish. • The output will stored in a default directory (most likely C:\Program Files\User Productivity Kit\UPK Developer 27\Publish.

  18. Deployment Format The following deployment formats allow you to publish content for playback viewing: • Browser-based Player format • Website format • Import to a Learning Management System (LMS) • Documents (Word, PDF format) • Job Aid

Player Package • Create installation packages for the Player. • No need to install or download any files on a computer to deploy content. • Save the published folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\User Productivity Kit\UPK Developer 27\Publish\Player for Oracle 11i) to internal drive or web server or a cd. • Open index.html to launch player. • Play topics in all modes

  20. HTML Website • Output is a tree of hyperlinked HTML files. • Suitable for posting to an Intranet or Internet site. • Appears in a static version of Try It!

  21. LMS Package • Integrate with Learning Management System without any JavaScript programming or HTML manipulation. • Output is AIDD and SCORM compliant

  22. Document and Job Aid Formats • Document – Publish recorded content in various documents using Word and PDF format • Job Aid – Publish quick reference guide, to view procedures for completing task without conceptual information
