Sinners Context

Sinners Context. First off, we’re all sinners. And we all have original sin. We are damaged goods. No getting around it. “In Adam’s fall we sinned all.”. We’re all going to Hell. This proves that God is just. After all, we’re sinners. If we didn’t go to Hell, God would not be just.

  1. Sinners Context

  2. First off, we’re all sinners. And we all have original sin. We are damaged goods. No getting around it. “In Adam’s fall we sinned all.”

  3. We’re all going to Hell. • This proves that God is just. • After all, we’re sinners. If we didn’t go to Hell, God would not be just. • An unjust God would either not be God or not be worth worshipping.

  4. But some of us will be let off the hook. • Not because we deserve it, but because God is merciful. He’s pretty awesome, that way. • An unmerciful God would either not be God, according to the New Testament, or not be worth worshipping.

  5. So how will we know if we we’re not going to Hell? • We don’t. Well, maybe we do…. • We might be among The Elect few whom God has decided to be merciful to.

  6. It stands to reason that if God were going to let us go to heaven – even though we totally, totally don’t deserve it (we’re fallen, remember)--, that God would reward us a little early and make us successful here on Earth. • He would make us rich.

  7. How can we get rich, if we’re not already rich? • Work. • Enter “The Protestant Work Ethic”; after all, God helps those who help themselves. • Being wealthy is how you know and others know that you’re in the Elect.

  8. Since life is long, and God is both just and merciful, you can still either show that you’re one of The Elect by getting rewards here on Earth, or you can be really, really, really good, sinner, and maybe God will not damn you to Hell, which is where you totally deserve to go because you’re a fallen creature.

  9. So, snap out of it: work hard. This is America, a New Jerusalem where we can show God how we’re not quite as fallen as He thinks/knows we are. In the meantime, you are in grave peril, pay attention, go to Church: you are doomed to Hell (most likely, unless God takes mercy (unlikely, for He is just) or you are the Elect) and God is not a nice Guy, He’s got a bow and, baby, it’s bent back as you sit here taking notes.

  10. And you totally deserve it, sinner. And you totally deserve it.
