Core Alcohol and Drug Survey • Three-quarters (78.2%) of college students drink moderately, infrequently or not at all. • The majority of college students drink 2 or fewer drinks a week.* • 36% of college students drink an average of 0 drinks a week. • 48% of college students drink an average of 1 drink or less a week. • 56% of college students drink an average of 2 or fewer drinks a week. • 62% of college students drink an average of 3 or fewer drinks a week. • 66% of college students drink an average of 4 or fewer drinks a week. • 72% of college students drink an average of 5 or fewer drinks a week. • 75% of college students drink an average of 6 or fewer drinks a week. Source: The Core Alcohol and Drug Survey was developed under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and conducted annually by the Core Institute, a not-for-profit organization. 2008 Core Alcohol and Drug Survey data obtained through special data analysis in November 2010.   Non-user = did not use in past year; Infrequent user = one to 6 times/year; Moderate user = once/month to once/week; Regular user = 3 times/week to every day. *Average # of drinks you consume a week: ____. A drink is a bottle of beer, a glass of wine, a wine cooler, a shot glass of liquor, or a mixed drink.

Core Alcohol and Drug Survey Behavioral Norms: • 69% of college students did not get into a fight or argument while drinking. • 72% of college students did not miss class because of drinking. • 78% college students did not drive after drinking alcohol. • 84% of college students were not hurt or injured as a result of drinking. • 87% of college students did not get in trouble with police or other authorities. • 94% of college students did not damage property while drinking. • 99% of college students have not been arrested for DWI/DUI. Source: 2008 Core Alcohol and Drug Survey, developed under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and conducted annually by the Core Institute, a not-for-profit organization. The statistics are drawn from a cross-section of schools from across the country, consisting of 77,481 undergraduate students from colleges in the United States. All institutions used methods to insure a random and representative sample of their respective student bodies.
