  1. Radioactive Ion Beams For Nuclear Astrophysics RIB4NA PJ Woods for RIB4NA collaboration CERN-ISOLDE, GSI, GANIL, LLN, KVI, INFN-LNS, Mainz, PSI, Edinburgh, York, Weizmann, Debrecen, Barcelona, Basel Development, production and acceleration of radioactive ion beams for use in highest priority Nuclear Astrophysics experiments. EURISOL- EURONS Town Meeting, 17-19 Sept. 2007 EURISOL – EURONS Town Meeting, 17-19 September 2007

  2. Co-ordinated development at European level of innovative new technologies and techniques for the production of intense RIB for nuclear astrophysics • Prioritising and focusing of efforts on beams that will have maximum scientific impact on explosive nuclear astrophysical scenarios • Comprehensive world class expertise of collaboration in experimental nuclear astrophysics, stellar modelling, radiochemistry and ion sources • Agenda distinct, but highly complementary, to goals of nuclear structure and reactions of exotic nuclei – experiments also require high RIB intensities with a focus on certain high priority beam species. • A strong scientific overlap emerging between the structure and nuclear astrophysical reactions of exotic nuclei – this intellectual process will be reinforced by this JRA which will directly enhance the capabilities of European RIB facilities. • Overlap with 7 TNA requests including RIB facilities EURISOL – EURONS Town Meeting, 17-19 September 2007

  3. European Network for Nuclear AstrophysicsENNA • Aims to increase synergy between existing small scale stable beam facilities working in the area of Nuclear Astrophysics (20 separate institutions involved) • Key scientific issues include probing down to the ultra low energy Gamow peak in quiescent stellar burning scenarios, and measurements of p-process nuclei • Network aims to facilitate the development of common equipment, and general upgrading of the capabilities of these facilities • Collaborative work will be enhanced by movement of researchers between these accelerator labs, and by giving access to labs by external user groups with specialist experimental expertise and equipment EURISOL – EURONS Town Meeting, 17-19 September 2007
