This is achieved by thoroughly mixing an amendment into the existing soil. The choice of amendment depends on factors like climate, current soil composition and the type of plant needing nutrients.   4. Bark Fines Reddish brown in color, bark fines are made from pine or fir bark. Characteristically low ph levels make them ideal for acid-loving plants like rhododendrons, roses, azaleas and camellias. Various fruits like blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries that favor an acidic soil mixture also benefit from this particular amendment.
