  2. Who are A4A? • Architects for Aid has been operational in a dozen countries since January 2006; 30+projects • We provide professional technical expertise to NGOs. We design, build, and manage projects to provide better shelter and buildings. • Active in Disaster Relief and Development • We partner NGOs, INGOs and community based organisations • In two years over £1,000,000 of professional expertise in the field • A strong UK educational focus – including original thesis and published research, university collaborations • Set up the Built Environment Action Register (BEAR) for voluntary and professional/academic experts available to development projects

  3. Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the only article referring to the built environment. The article states that adequate shelter and housing are a fundamental human right.

Academic Links • The first ever registered CPD courses on humanitarian and development architecture in the UK • Original research with UK university departments tying UK students’ architectural course work into field based humanitarian /development work • Generating masters’ and PhD thesis level research • We are the only NGO to be RIBA recognised as PEDR (log book) compliant and to give UK architectural graduates humanitarian and development experience, recognised as professional-practice experience in the UK • Consultants to RIBA/McAslan Award, Foster Travelling Scholarship
