  1. Joseph McCarthy (November 14,1908-May 2,1957) By: Chris Radford W. and Mitchell Valentin

  2. Childhood: McCarthy was raised on a farm. He did not have much of a childhood because he had to drop out at the age of 14 to help his parents manage the farm.

  3. Schooling: McCarthy had to drop at of high school when he was 14 years old. However at the age 20 he was able to finish his four years of high school in one year ! He went to college from 1930 to 1935 and took a course on law and got his degree in law at Marquette University.

  4. Military: McCarthy enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. He became second Lieutenant after his basic training. He served as an intelligence briefing officer for a dive bomber squadron. This shows how intelligent he was for a high roll and his short time being a Marine. He entered during WWII. He was very talented and awarded and resigned with the rank of a captain.

  5. Political Life: McCarthy had to run against Howard McMurray. McCarthy won this election and became senate in Wisconsin. His first three years were great and he was also a great speaker. He was a described as charming and friendly.

  6. Personal Life: McCarthy used the same method of accusation on almost everyone of his opponents and critics in his own campaigns and working with other Republicans. He would accuse them of supporting communism or being a communist. McCarthy worked together with John Marshall Butler against Millard Tydings. In McCarthy’s speeches he said that Tydings protected communists; he had his staff dig up photos to make Tydings fit what McCarthy said.

  7. Death: McCarthy died on May 2, 1957 at the age of 48. The official cause of death was acute hepatitis. Some people in the press hinted that he had died from alcoholism. McCarthy was given a state funeral that was attended by many senators and priests. It was also viewed by many citizens before he was buried.

  8. The Person He Became: The person he became was due to his whole life of growing up. He was very loyal to his parents and dropped out of school at the age of 14. Going back to school at the age of 20 and being able to finish in one year shows the ability that he had and he used. This shows that he did not have an ordinary mind. As he got older, he enlisted in the service. This gave him a lot of experience and exposure to governmental issues. His whole life growing up and being in the service shows his loyalty and shows why he became a politician. He fought for our country and would lead to a reasonable reason to now stand up for it.
