  1. Ventilation and Humidity

  2. Today’s Objectives Recap enrichment All learners must be able to define ventilation and humidity Most learners should be able to state why it is important to control ventilation and humidity. Some learners could explain how to regulate ventilation and humidity

  3. VENTILATION • Ventilation = is the process of "changing" or replacing air in the enclosure to provide high air quality • It includes both the exchange of air to the outside as well as circulation of air within the enclosure • It controls temperature; replenishes oxygen; removes moisture, odours, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, and carbon dioxide.

  4. How?

  5. HUMIDITY • Humidity = the % of water vapour in the air. • 0 = extremely dry and 100 = totally saturated • Humidity is important to the health of animals. • Tropical species have adapted to live in humid conditions and this should be replicated in captivity. It affects the ability of animals to cool themselves through evaporation, aids in shedding, keeps animals hydrated and is needed for respiration.

  6. How?

  7. Got It? Get It? All learners must be able to define ventilation and humidity Most learners should be able to explain how to regulate ventilation and humidity Some learners could explain why it is important to control ventilation and humidity.
