ED 101: Nuts and Bolts of the ED Organization • Mission Statement: The mission of the Eastern District of the Society of Health and Physical Educators is to enhance the professional growth and development of its members; promote program standards and serve as a liaison between SHAPE America and its members through leadership development and the dissemination of information and educational services.

  11. ED Nominations • The election of the ED Leadership council members is held annually via electronic voting.

  12. Nominations • Members at large are chosen annually: to serve a two-year term. • President-elect is chosen annually to serve a three year term – President-elect, President and Past President

  13. Nominations • For President-elect - a preferred criteria for the nominee is that they should have served on the ED Board in the past • Send nominations for candidacy to: Mary Ellen Alger: Maryellen.alger@comcast.net

  15. MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVES What are they? * When someone signs up for a SHAPE America membership at your state conference, they are then entered into a drawing for a free registration to the next ED Conference.

  16. MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVES • How do I set it up? Option 1: Have a paper application for SHAPE America membership that is collected by your State Council for Services (C4S) Representative. Your Rep then “draws” the winner for the Free ED Conference Registration.

  17. MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVES Option 2: Setup a computer with Internet access. Have new members sign up for SHAPE America online and fill out a ticket for the drawing and have your State Council for Services Representative “draw” a name from for the Free ED Conference Registration.

  18. MEMBERSHIP INCENTIVES • How is the drawing conducted? *However your heart desires… NJAHPERD has an end-of-conference prize drawing and pulls the name then The winner is then presented with an ED Certificate for the Free Conference Registration and name forwarded to ED for the record.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT • What is it? * The purpose of the Professional Development Grant is to encourage increased participation in the Eastern District by having professionals in the disciplines of HPERD attend the ED Conference.  The Professional Development Grant program will provide financial support of $150.00 for qualified individuals to attend the ED Conference.  Up to 4 grants can be allocated per year

  20. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS • Where to find the application • Go to the SHAPE America website > District Associations > Eastern District >Programs > Professional Development Grants • Complete the forms and submit • Recipients will be notified by ED

Council for Services and Council for Conventions • Both Councils meet in the Spring for one day to do their work • Both Councils have representation from elected leaders in ED as well as State Representatives serving as liaisons to ED • Both Councils members share information between ED and their State affiliate – programs, products and services

Council for Conventions State Representatives • Serve on the Council in the discipline which is designated on the “ED Rotation Chart” showing which disciplines each State represents. • Help in all aspects to plan and run the ED Conference • Serve as a liaison to their own State bringing in presenters and ideas for a successful conference

Council for ConventionsRepresentatives (cont’d) • During the ED Conference, be on-hand to monitor, problem solve and insure a smooth running conference • Promote your State members to join SHAPE America and attend the ED Conference • Help to identify possible ED Conference sites in your State • If ED Conference is held in your State encourage full participation by your State affiliate

Council for ServicesState Representative • Act as the Liaison between ED and Respective State • At the ED Council for Services meeting, share information from respective State. • At the ED Conference, staff the Council for Services booth showing ED programs and projects • At the ED Conference, provide a State table to share information. • Set up a display area for ED at your State Conference using the ED plaque and information • Promote SHAPE America membership initiative • Promote nominations for ED and SHAPE America awards.

Council for ServicesState Representative (cont’d) • Secure a seat on the State Board • Promote SHAPE America membership initiative • Promote nominations for ED and SHAPE America awards. • Encourage participation SHAPE America Advocacy Day. • Promote special grant projects for both ED and SHAPE America. • Promote the ED Student Leadership Conference.
