  2. What is a Computer? • Computer is a device capable of performing high speed mathematical and logical operation based on program to provide meaningful result

  3. basic parts of a computer system • All computer systems need two 3 of parts that work together to make them run. These parts are: 1. Hardware The hardware is the part of the computer you can touch and see.( ex. keyboard, mouse, monitor) 2. Software The software is a part of the computer you cannot touch but is very important. The software is all the programming that makes the computer run; controlling everything that the computer does. 3. Peopleware or Liveware Peopleware can refer to anything that has to do with the role of people in the development or use of computer software and hardware systems, including such issues as developer productivity, teamwork, group dynamics, the psychology of programming, project management, organizational factors, human interface design, and human-machine-interaction.[

  4. Introduction to computer hardware • Casing - also known as a computer chassis, cabinet, box, tower, enclosure, housing, system unit or simply case) is the enclosure that contains most of the components of a computer (usually excluding the display, keyboard and mouse). • Estimated price Php-1200

  5. ATX Power Supply (usually built-in with the casing) A power supply unit (PSU) converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of the computer. Modern personal computers universally use a switched-mode power supply. Some power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage. (Estimated Price Php 600)

  6. Mother board (Mobo) • In personal computers, a motherboard is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in many modern computers and holds many of the crucial components of the system, providing connectors for other peripherals. The motherboard is sometimes alternatively known as the mainboard, system board, or, on Apple computers, the logic board.[1] • Estimated Price PHP 2500

  7. CPU- Central processing unit • The central processing unit (CPU) is the portion of a computer system that carries out the instructions of a computer program, to perform the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. The CPU plays a role somewhat analogous to the brain in the computer. • Estimated Price – Intel core i3 – Php 4950

  8. Memory (RAM) • Random access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. Today, it takes the form of integrated circuits that allow stored data to be accessed in any order with a worst case performance of constant time. • Estimated Price 1GB memory DD3 – Php 475

  9. Video Card(built-in to modern day Mobo) • A video card, Graphics Card, or Graphics adapter is an expansion card which generates output images to a display. Most video cards offer various functions such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics • Estimated Price Php2500 • Common type used is PCI-Express / AGP

  10. Hard Disk A hard disk drive (HDD; also hard drive or hard disk)[2] is a non-volatile, random access digital magneticdata storage device. It features rotating rigid platters on a motor-driven spindle within a protective enclosure. Data is magnetically read from and written to the platter by read/write heads that float on a film of air above the platters. Common Types of HDD: SATA / IDE

  11. Wiring it all up together • Attach the motherboard to the casing • Insert the CPU to the motherboard • Insert memory (ddr3) • Attach the ATX power supply cable and the CPU power supply cable to the mobo • Attach the power switch wires to the mobo • Power Up the computer • You should be able to see the bios • Power off the machine • Attach the harddisk and vga card • Configure BIOS and install Operating system

  12. LABoratory: Build your Own PC

  13. The BioS BIOS In IBM PC compatible computers, the basic input/output system (BIOS), also known as the System BIOS or ROM BIOS (pronounced /ˈbaɪ.oʊs/), is a de facto standard defining a firmwareinterface The BIOS software is built into the PC, and is the first code run by a PC when powered on ('boot firmware'). When the PC starts up, the first job for the BIOS is to initialize and identify system devices such as the video display card, keyboard and mouse, hard disk drive, optical disc drive and other hardware.

  14. Install Windows 8
