  2. The Louisiana Purchase What was it? It was one of the biggest land deals in history. At 4 cents a acre. It doubled the size of the U.S.

  3. Who were Lewis and Clark? Who was Lewis? Lewis is Thomas Jefferson’s secretary, after serving in the army. Who was Clark? Clark was Lewis’s friend from the army. Lewis chose him to assist him on him on his journey.

  4. Goals What were some of Thomas Jefferson goals? • Map the rivers. • Find the Northwest Passage. • Open the west to trade. • Find new animals and plant species. • Make friends with the Native Americans.

  5. Supplies. • 150 yards of cloth. • pliers • chisels • handsaws • hatchets • whetstones • iron corn mill • two dozen tablespoons • 12 pounds of soap • 193 pounds of "portable soup.” • three bushels of salt • writing paper, ink and crayons • and more! What where some of the supplies?

  6. Route of Exploration Where did they go? They started in St. going up the Missouri into Oregon country. Then camped out where Astoria is.

  7. Sacagawea Who was she? She was the person who made the expedition possible, by telling them where to go.

  8. Discoveries What are some of the discoveries? The discoveries where the prairie dog (as shown bellow) ,and many others, such as the Red Tailed Bobcat, Bear grass and Bitterroot

  9. Events and Adventures Beaver One day on the Missouri river they saw a beaver that was huge so Seaman (as shown bellow)went to go get it he got bit by the beaver. Lewis said that “my dog Seaman got bit in the hind leg and it was super hard to stop the bleeding.”

  10. Bear One day on the Missouri River they encountered a bear. It chased them for a while on his hind legs.

  11. Bear-dog On November 16, 1803 Indians wanted to trade 3 beaver skins for Seaman calling him Bear-dog.

  12. Conclusion I think the expedition is so important because it found new plant and animal species, and it opened up the northwest.
