  1. Kinetic Energy

  2. Define Kinetic Energy in your own words.Define Speed in your own words

  3. Research 15 minutes • Find the definition of Kinetic Energy • Find the equation for Kinetic Energy • 2 examples (a bowling ball rolling down a hill) • 2 problems (if a 4 kg ball rolled down a hil at 36 mps, how much kinetic energy does it have?) • What common symbols might we see for Kinetic Energy • What are the SI units used for Kinetic Energy

  4. Share

  5. Research • Define Mass • What equipment is used to measure mass • Define Speed • Find the equation for speed with 2 to 3 examples • Define Velocity • Find the equation for velocity with 2 to 3 examples

  6. Share

  7. Answers • KE = 0.5 • m • v2 • 1. Determine the kinetic energy of a 625-kg roller coaster car that is moving with a speed of 18.3 m/s. • Answer: • KE = 0.5*m*v2KE = (0.5) * (625 kg) * (18.3 m/s)2 • KE = 1.05 x105Joules or • Missy Water, the former platform diver for the Ringling Brother's Circus, had a kinetic energy of 12 000 J just prior to hitting the bucket of water. If Missy's mass is 40 kg, then what is her speed? • Answer • KE = 0.5*m*v212 000 J = (0.5) * (40 kg) * v2 • 300 J = (0.5) * v2 • 600 J = v2 • v = 24.5 m/s

  8. Answers • Velocity = Distance/Time

  9. Exit Note • How does Kinetic Energy Change when mass and/or speed is changed?
