  1. Application of 3D plotter for an 11T Dipole Magnet Prototype Endpart for CERN LHC Rapid fabrication of lead-end and return-end saddles to verify surface fit prior to CERN remanufacturing saddles. Jodie Coghill 04-OCT-2011

  2. 11-Tesla Dipole Magnet – lead-end cables

  3. After winding the coil, the manufactured saddles did not fit as expected.

  4. Two casts were created from the cable at each end of the magnet. TD Quality Control measured the cast with their CMM and supplied TD Design & Drafting with 500 data points for both the lead-end and return-end saddles.

  5. A surface was created in NX using the point cloud from inspection.

  6. Using the cad data, the 3D Plotter generated ABS plastic models of the new lead-end and return-end designs. CAD solid models can be created and sent to the vendor to be manufactured. To create these models from concept to 3D plotted parts took less then 4 days. This process opens many opportunities for rapid conceptual development on future SC magnets.

  7. 3-D Ferret Magnetic Field Probe
