  2. Reminder about VOWELS: German actually has eight vowels: a, e, i, o, u, ä, ö, ü. (‘Umlaut’, ‘Umlaute’) These can be short or long. Vowels are short when they precede multiple consonants (e.g. Schmidt = shmit, not shmeet). Vowels are lengthened by doubling of the vowel (e.g. Staat = shtaht, Boot = boht, See = zay), or by the letter "h" placed after the vowel (e.g. Mahler = mah-ler, ohne = oh-nuh). Also take note of the German final e: it's not silent, but it is very short.(e.g. Katze, heute, hätte)

  11. Hallo! Ich heiße Stefan. Ich bin dreizehn Jahre alt und mein Geburtstag ist am 4. April. Wie heißt du und wie alt bist du? Ich mag auch Comics – ich habe viele Comics zu Hause.
