  1. Brain FX: Assessment Services offered through BodyMend Wellness Clinic A BodyMend Wellness Clinic Presentation Facilitator: Roxanne Mathews, RPT, ATC April 2014

  2. AGENDA • Overview of Brain FX service • What is a Brain FX assessment? • What patients are appropriate for referral for assessment? • Goal of Brain FX assessment • BodyMend Practitioners certified to do Brain FX assessments • Administration of Brain FX to patients • BodyMend Wellness Clinic Resources

  3. Session Goals • Introduce the Brain FX service to practitioners of the BodyMend Wellness Clinic • Identify what types of patients can benefit from a Brain FX assessment • Identify other appropriate resources to link clients for further assessment and treatment • To give all staff of Bodymend a viewing of a physical run-through of the Brain FX assessment.

  4. What is the Brain FX assessment? BrainFx360 is a new, comprehensive, standardized, research-based digital assessment tool that is designed to measure the functional impact of mild to moderate brain injury or disorder. ~ www.brainfx.com

  5. Patients appropriate for Brain FX Assessment Any patient who: • is showing the signs of a concussion • has recently been involved in an MVA with report of “hitting their head” and/or continuing headaches • was knowingly unconscious for any period of time for any reason • was involved in a slip and fall accident where they may have hit their head • may be deemed a candidate for psychological intervention

  6. Patient Requirements Patients must be/have: • 10 years of age or older • fluent in the English language (other languages are planned to be available in the future) • full ability to type/use their hands Patients can have other injuries/ailments at the time of the Ax, however, these are required to be documented in the report, so as to be considered with their results.

  7. Goal of Brain FX assessment • The goal for allied health professionals is NOT to diagnose a patient with a brain injury, but rather to provide a comprehensive look into the possibility of a mild to moderate brain injury. • Allied health professionals conduct and guide the patient through the evaluation. • Onlypsychologists and neurologists interpret the results and make diagnoses (FMDs cannot do this).

  8. Clinic Practitioners certified to do Brain FX assessments Any allied health professional who is certified and/or registered with a registering body can conduct a Brain FX assessment. Examples: College of Physiotherapists of Ontario College of Chiropractors of Ontario College of Massage Therapists of Ontario • In this clinic, planned practitioners through BrainFX when completed training will be: • Roxanne • Sherry • Jason

  9. Administration of Brain FX to patients • Can take 60-90 minutes to complete • Must be completed in an enclosed room with no distractions • Administering practitioner MUST be available to assist the patient through the examination
