  2. GETTING DRAFTED. Magic Johnson was the first overall pick in the 1979 NBA draft. He had worked very hard over all these years and it all paid off. His dream had finally come true. He was very excited because he got to play alongside all-star center Kareem-Abdul Jabber. Also he got to play with all-star forward James Worthy. The Lakers had also a great history with Wilt Chamberlin, a center who used to play for the Lakers and holds the record for most points scored in one game. No matter how good the both of them are (James and Kareem) they never won a championship together. But when Magic took over, everything changed.

  3. Rising star Magic started out great in his early 1st season. He averaged 18 PPG 7 RPG and 7 APG. He also made the starting lineup for the 1980 All-Star game, and that is amazing for a rookie. Most rookies never make the All-Star game starting lineup. The Lakers finished the 1980 regular season with a record of 60-22 and moved into the playoffs. They made the the 1980 NBA finals and they faced the Philadelphia 76res. And Magic won NBA finals MVP.

  4. Moving on. In his second season he sprained knee and missed 45 games. His rehabilitation was the most ‘’down’’ he ever felt. But he returned right before the playoffs started. In the first round of the playoffs, the Lakers faced the Houston Rockets who they lost to.

  5. Later in his career • In his 5th season he averaged a double double of 17 PPG and 13 assists per game also averaging 7 RPG. The Lakers reached the finals for the third year in a row. They faced The Celtics. But they lost.

  6. Retirement • Magic Johnson retired from the Lakers. It was very sad to see him go. Some even cried. It stunned the world. • It was just so hard for fans to let it go. But the fans moved on and found another interest in Shaquille O Neal and Kobe Brayant.
