  8. December 2013 Department Budget • Our hands are becoming tied – unable to help with gaps • Tuition for post-GSSP hits hard

  9. December 2013 Graduate Program: Keys to Success • Recruit students with high potential • Teach first-year students a strong foundation • Move students into research quickly • Provide sufficient support (financially and otherwise)

  10. December 2013 Graduate Program: Enrollment • Many students finishing PhD (good!) • Some students leaving with MS • Some students leaving program Indications that enrollment is getting too low – not enough to cover TA duties or RA positions. Push to bring numbers back up?

  11. December 2013 Graduate Program: Recruiting • We need everyone to help. • Quality vs Quantity – do we aim for both? • $$ from the Graduate School • Do we need a program for under-prepared students?

  12. December 2013 Graduate Program: Financial Support • GSSP – bias against international students, PI funding • Students must maintain enrollment (at least 1 credit-hour) • GSSP requires 3 credit-hours (?) • Tuition will be pro-rated for students finishing mid-sem Faculty and Department must work together to plan out support. We will be short of TAs for the spring semester.
