  10. Math Placement • History: In previous years, the math placement exam was administered as a pencil/paper exam. Students, identified by the Academic Assistance Center, were pulled from important sessions during Orientation and Enrollment to take the paper-based exam. • Why: Not only will having a computerized exam allow students to participate fully in the O&E program, but the exam scores will be populated in iSIS in a timely manner. This allows the advisor and student the chance to view the scores during the advising session to determine the appropriate level math course. • Who: We are requiring all incoming K-State students to take the math placement exam. This exam was designed specifically to test the preparedness for K-State math courses, and although the student may have prior experience, this internally designed exam will help to place the student in the most appropriate K-State math course. • When: We are requesting all incoming K-State students to take the exam prior to attending Orientation and Enrollment. We have communicated this information on all correspondence we are sending to students who register for O&E. We will send a reminder to students who have not taken the exam 5 days before the registered date. We will also phone call students between the 5 days and day before the registered date as a friendly reminder as well. Students who are not able or do not take the exam before O&E, will take the exam prior to the advising appointment. At the 10:45am College & Advising session, each college will advise the students who have not taken the exam where to go. Students who still need to complete the exam will need to do so prior to meeting with their academic advisor in the afternoon. • Scoring: The possible scores on the exam range from 10 – 50 points. Performance on the exam is reported as a recommendation for the student and academic advisor to use during course selection along with ACT/SAT score, transcripts, etc. Students should feel comfortable discussing their academic strengths and challenges with their academic advisor. There is no penalty for a low score on the MPE and the score does not appear on your academic transcript. Students will not know their MPE score prior to meeting with their advisor. The key below is only provided to advisors. Can purchase tickets on iSIS - can only choose ONE option: ICAT Combo (ICAT football and season basketball tickets for $330) OR GA Combo (GA football and basketball tickets for $245) Students can go online at http://kstatesports.com/studenttickets to look at stadium seating chart and see extra benefits of ICAT ticket holders One ticket per student can be purchased – married students can purchase a non-student ticket after August 1st when providing proof of marriage All tickets will be emailed to the K-State email account (hotmail and gmail have blocked - must use zimbra/webmail) All athletic tickets are sold in combo packages – no individual basis for football or men’s basketball. Contact the ticket office at 1.800.211.CATS for a special circumstance (Dec. graduation, study abroad, etc.) Athletic Tickets

  14. Language Placement Exams • Offered for Spanish, French & German • 11:00am – 4:00pm in 01 Eisenhower • Not necessary to make an appointment

Meningitis Vaccinations • Meningitis vaccination is required for all students who live in the residence halls or Jardine Apartments, or a waiver must be signed • Meningitis shots will be available on the 1st floor of the Union for $115 or at Lafene Health Center • They will not be offered in the Union on June 16 for Transfer Orientation & Enrollment • More information: http://www.k-state.edu/lafene/meningitis.htm

  16. Parking Permits for Students • Students may purchase parking permits online through iSIS. Parking permit costs are added to their tuition bill. • If students will live in the residence halls they will sign up for a parking permit after they receive their housing assignment, which will happen after July 1. The permit will be waiting for the student in the lobby of their residence hall after move-in day. • If a student will live off campus they will pick up their parking permit in Edwards Hall in August.

Textbooks • To find textbooks required for each course at K-State students may go to www.shopvarneys.com • Students will enter their course number and receive a list of the ISBN numbers for the textbooks required for their course • Students can pre-order their textbooks during Orientation & Enrollment by stopping by the bookstore in the Union

  18. Orientation & Enrollment • Students will receive information in draw-string cinch bags • Parents will receive information in a canvas/recycled tote bag • Student t-shirt design

  19. 1st Annual K-State Military and Veterans Campus Visit Day • Morning of Friday, July 10 or July 17 • This even targets soldiers, veterans, and their families in the community interested in on-campus and distance education programs offered by K-State • Academic information sessions will tentatively be held at 10:30 a.m. for all in attendance • Denise Poindexter will be in touch with academic departments to schedule visits
