  2. The Maersk Arctic Shipping Venture Maersk is the largest container shipping group in the world. The Russian company sent the Venta Maersk, a large ice class vessel with capacity for up to 3,600 20-foot containers, on an Arctic voyage through what is known as the Northern Sea Route in 2018.   3. This was seen by the industry as the latest step in the push to expand this increasingly more accessible route. One-Off Triala The Venta Maersk The Maersk group emphasised that this maiden voyage was just a one-off trial for the time being, with the company not currently looking to use the NSR as a regular alternative to traditional shipping routes. However, the vessel was able to collect valuable scientific data as well as delivering its load of fish and electronics. The ice class vessel Venta Maersk made the journey in 37 days, making world head- lines as the first ship of its type to navigate the Northern Sea Route. It has a stronger hull that a typical container ship, designed specifically to meet the challenges of the icy Arctic sea. Victor Olerskiy
