  2. Urbanization & Health • As the growth of cities and industries so did the rate of death and disease. Smallpox, typhus, tuberculosis, cholera, and other diseases spread quickly within the dense population of cities. • Overcrowding coupled with poor sanitation often associating with poverty left many vulnerable to disease and other health hazards.
