  6. Our Plan for Packing A. Packing 1. Acquire boxes, labels, and packing tape 2. Weed - Weed - Weed 3. Replace old call numbers/clean-up catalog records 4. Begin with Reference, Classroom sets, Biographies, Nonfiction, and Fiction 5. Do an inventory scan as books are put in the boxes.

Packing • Not enough time • Too many books out • Boxes were not numbered correctly • Tried to do too much during move • Inventory equipment • Repair books/call numbers • Correct mistakes on catalog B.   9. What We Got Right • We communicated. • We had an administration who respected us and listened to us. • We labeled our boxes. (We would do it differently - next slide) • We asked for summer pay early. • We chose furniture that students like. • We learned from others' mistakes. • Slanted book drop • Large drawers • Sink

Things We Would Do Differently • Begin one year earlier. • Label and number the boxes differently. • Use different colored paper and/or markers for each genre. • Pack boxes lighter. • Save classroom sets that had been used that year until the end. • Find out the Board's vision of how the new library would look. • Put book drop somewhere else and have a gate on one side of circ desk.
