Public Health England (PHE) • Went live on 1April 2013. • To champion the public’s health and work with partners so that collectively the population are: • Protected against hazards to their health; • Supported in enjoying good health at each stage of their life; and • Able to access to the health services that best meet their needs. • Organised into three patches • Have embedded staff in NHS England • Regional Director, Health Advisor to Mayor

5. Roles and responsibilities in VCS Engagement • Local government to lead local engagement with VCS • PHE London will support: • Local Government • LAs when they want to work supra Borough • Develop insight with colleagues about how VCS helps to address social determinants of poor health • PHE National will lead discussions with national VCS organisations as part of wider partnership and as public mediators

7. Prioritiesfor Health and Wellbeing Boards • Early work looking at local Health and Well-being Boards’ priorities shows many selecting same themes: • Improving mental wellbeing of adults and children • Reducing obesity rates among children and adults • Work focussed on long-term conditions • Integration of health and care services • Early intervention • Other areas include tackling alcohol related issues, tobacco control, improving dementia care, cancer prevention and better service outcomes, reducing cardiovascular disease and increasing physical activity levels.

8. London Health Board • The Board’s role is to provide leadership on health issues of pan-London significance, where this adds value to decisions, agreements and action at local level. • The board will meet four times per year starting in May 2013 • Membership is made up of three parts: • five Leaders of London local authorities • the Mayor and four Mayoral appointees • five senior representatives from the Health Sector in the capital

9. London Health Board The Board has identified a number of priority areas to focus on: • Making the case for investing in London’s health economy • Promoting growth and jobs in London’s health & life sciences sectors • Improving primary care • Enhancing the patient experience, particularly through transparency of data and digital access to information • Improving mental health services and well-being

10. Improve Mental Health & Wellbeing in London • Identify areas where joint work amongst stakeholders would improve the mental health and wellbeing of Londoners. • Develop a number of potential initiatives that could be taken forward under the umbrella of the London Health Board (LHB).
