Influences on the 1930´s Fashion Trends. • On October 24, 1929, Wall street had crashed and that´s when the Great Depression happened. • Which had a huge impact on the Fashion in the 1930´s. • In the 1930´s, people changed at least a few times a day. • They changed their clothes in the morning, afternoon, and they changed in the evening.

  3. Evening Wear • Evening dresses back then were backless and were slightly bloused. The dresses had hemlines that were either ankle-length or floor-length. • Flowers made of fabric, as well as bows, could be found on one shoulder, or in the center of the waist and/or neckline. • Late in the decade silky dresses became popular as well as empire-waisted waistline which were tied in the back

  4. Materials Used for Clothing. • Wool • The main materials used for womens clothing was Wool, Silk, Cotton, and Rayon. • Many coats and bottom trim for dresses were made with animal fur. • Some popular types of furs were the Sable, Mink, Silver Fox, also, the Persian Lamb. • For their swimsuits they used Lastex, which is made up of a thread of Rubber Wrapped with fiber of, Rayon or even Cotton. • 10w05326

  5. Makeup and Hair Suntans were still considered to be low class, most women in the 30’s had fairly pale skin. Makeup, such as lipstick and rouge-blush- were used to brighten up the face. Artificial eyelashes were popular but took hours to put on in a professional salon. Women kept their hair pretty short about shoulder-length. Finger-waves or soft curls with very little body and volume were popular and common.

  6. Accessories • Women usually wore brimmed hats, normally wore on an angle. • They sometimes wore gloves outside the house, to match their shoes and their handbags. • Their shoes with rounded toes would also have wide, thick heels. • Other types of popular shoes in the 1930’s were Flats, Buckle Shoes, and Pumps.

  8. More about the fashion • 1930s fashion was an era of romantic style inspired by America’s interest with the theatre and the beautiful stars who wore silks, lace, and backless bias cut gowns. • After The Great Depression more people had started the trends.

  9. Men’s Fashion • Men’s suits were modified to create the image of a large torso. Shoulders were squared using shoulder pads and sleeves were tapered to the wrist. • Dark fabrics were enhanced by herringbone and stippled vertical and diagonal stripes. In winter, brown cheviot was popular. In spring, accents of white, red or blue silk fibers were woven into soft wool. The striped suit became a common element in a man’s outfit at this time. Single, double, chalk, wide and narrow stripes were all popular.

  10. The End of the 1930’s • Womens fashion in the late 1930’s introduced nylon, a growing change an influence of Hollywood movies. • On September, 3, 1939, England and France declared war on Germany for invading Poland. Not only did this change culture and history of the world after, it would have a big effect on men and womens fashion of the 1930’s.
