  2. The ultimate message of the book of Daniel… • is not about Daniel’s visions or witnessing • is not about Israel’s fate • is not about Kings’ greatness • is not about Man’s rise and fall • is not about the Devil’s “little horn/king”

  3. It’s about GOD!! (cf. “The LORD is King”) • Sovereign God controlling Daniel’s history • Sovereign God controlling Israel’s history • Sovereign God controlling Kings’ history • Sovereign God controlling Man’s history • Sovereign God controlling Devil’s history

  4. See the hands of God in each chapter and movement of the book! • Chapter 1 • God delivered Israel to Babylon (2) • God caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel (9) • God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning (17)

  5. Chapter 2 • God told Daniel the king’s dream (19) • God is the source/revealer of wisdom (20-23) • Daniel testified that only God can reveal mysteries to man (28-30) • Daniel told it was God who gave power to King Nebuchadnezzar (36-38) • God’s “unmanned” final kingdom destroys and supersedes all human kingdoms (44-45) • King recognized God’s greatness (46-47)

  6. Chapter 3 • Daniel’s friends vowed undivided allegiance to God alone (16-18) • God delivered the 3 friends from fiery furnace (25-27) • King recognized God’s miraculous deliverance and He alone is worthy to be worshipped (28-29)

  7. Chapter 4 • God declares that he alone is “sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them over to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of men” (17) • God humbles Nebuchadnezzar to let him “acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms…” (25) • The awakened king praised God as “The King of heaven…” (36-37)

  8. Chapter 5 • Immediate judgment on Belshazzar • “God has numbered the days of your reign and brought to an end” (26) • “You have been weighed …and found wanting” (27) • “Your kingdom is divided…” (28) • “That very night…” (30)

  9. Chapter 6 • Daniel testified that “God has sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions” (21) • King Darius decreed subjects to fear and reverence Daniel’s God (25-26a) • King Darius praised God’s eternal dominion, power and compassion (26b-27)

  10. Chapter 7 • The little horn’s evil and oppression are monitored, limited and restricted(12, 21-22, 25) • The Ancient of Days sits in heaven and judges at his appointed time(9-10) • The Son of Man descends in clouds of heaven to render final judgment (13, 26) • The Son of Man establishes the eternal kingdom and reigns with his saints (14, 18, 27)

  11. Chapter 8 • The little horn’s evil and oppression are monitored, limited and restricted(12-14) • God sent angel Gabriel to explain visionsto Daniel (15-18) • The lawless, evil “little horn” will be suddenly “destroyed, but not by human power”(23-25) • Dieu a sous son autorité le (passé), le présent, le futur et les dernier jours (26)

Chapter 9 • God prophesied through Jeremiah(2) • Declares God’s attributes: awesome, keeps covenant (4), righteous (7, 14), merciful and forgiving (9), cast disasters to discipline and judge (14), powerfully delivers (15), listens, turns away anger, restores, forgives…(16-19) • God sends Gabriel to answer prayers (21ff) • Terminates man’s problem of sin (24-27)

  13. Chapters 10-12 • God combats and defeats evil(10:14, 20-21) • “at the appointed time” (11:27, 29, 35) • “until the time of wrath is complete, for what has been determined must take place”(11:36) • “come to his end…noone will help”(11:45) • “protect your nation…time of distress…the book…will…until the time of the end” (12:1-4) • “at the end of the days you will rise” (12:13)

  14. PRAISE THESOVEREIGN GOD(2:20-23) • A. God is Eternal(20) • B. God is Wise • He knows “darkness” and “light” (22b) • He “reveals” (21c, 22a) • C. God is Powerful • He governs nature (21a) • He governs history (21b) • D. God Gives • He gives and permits… (23)
