  3. Motorcycle GTR: background (2) • Group Members: Canada, USA, Italy, Japan, India, IMMA and FEMA • July 2003: 1st Informal group meeting • April 2004: 2nd Informal group meeting • Sept 2004: Preliminary report to GRRF • November 2004: Preliminary report to AC3

  4. Regulations considered • ECE R78 • USA FMVSS 122 • Japan’s JSS 12-61 • General agreement between IMMA and USA/Canada severity assessments • 2nd Informal group (April 2004) meeting able to agree the technical basis for the GTR and to appoint a drafting group

  5. The technical basis: general • Based on: • the results of the severity comparison • experience with repeatablity/practicality • a combination of concepts in: • ECE R78 • FMVSS 122 • JSS 12-61

  6. The technical basis: tests • Dry stop test: • Laden: single brake tests following R78 • Unladen: both brakes together, 100 km/h, following FMVSS • High speed test: from 160 km/h, to meet 5,8 m/s2 following JSS and FMVSS • Heat fade test: following R78 • Wet test: following R78

  7. Next steps • 17h45 tonight: GTR text group meets • 2004/11/08-10: 3rd Informal group meeting in Montreal, to: • Review phase 2 of the USA/Canadian testing • Discuss progress with the GTR text • Discuss the basis for the cost/effectiveness analysis

  8. Future schedule • 57/GRRF: presentation of the detailed table of technical proposals: discussion/agreement (working version already on the UN website) • 58/GRRF: if there is agreement at 57/GRRF, presentation of the draft GTR text • Cost/effectiveness study by 2005/12/31 • After approval of the GTR text by GRRF: preparation of the official technical report and final GTR text for AC3 and presentation in 2006
