  2. FINAL DRAFT Topics for Primer Discussion: Attributes of Complexity Subset* • Interactions: Multiplicity of interactions and feedback – relationships between one part of the system and some other entity, along which information or influence may flow • Evolving or self-organizing interfaces – Change during the course of operation and evolve • Openness – Boundary interactions with the environment • Emergence: System behaviors or qualities not directly traceable to the system's components, but rather to how those components interact • Only exists at the system level and is not exhibited within isolation at the subsystem levels. • Scaling doesn’t work  emergent behavior changes the system * This is NOT a comprehensive list of the attributes of complexity; these are isolated topics for CASE Primer discussion.

  3. FINAL DRAFT Some Candidate Complexity Approaches for Engineering and DevelopmentExtracted from ‘A Complexity Primer for Systems Engineers’‡ ‡Sheard, Cook, Honour, Hybertson, Krupa, McEver, McKinney, Ondrus, Ryan, Scheurer, Singer, and Sparber. 2013.
