  2. You will receive a ‘Goodie-bag’ on April 3, containing: • Hoodie • copy of passport & visa • SIM card • ‘red book’ • …

  3. What (not) to take withyou, in short: • Money (see infosession 4), 500 RMB for the ‘Pot’ • Passport with visum: organizers give/take/keep • GSM (see infosession 5), prepare for exchanging SIM • Adaptor; consider multiple outputs.. • Toilet paper • Clothes/shoes both for leisure and formal visits • For company visits and Chinese embassy: dress properly “as for a job interview” • Swim/bathing suit: maybe few opporunities

In detail: • Passport: • - You get it at departure time, need it for check-in, money exchange, etc. • Have always a copy with you • For travel: • Allowance hand luggage: 5 kg max, 55 x 40 x 20 cm • Allowance Check-in luggage: 23 kg max, 1 piece • In hand-luggage: • No liquids or gels > 100 ml. No any sharp objects, (nail scissors etc.); they will simply be taken and thrown away. • In check-in luggage: • No money or valuables, no knives, no cameras (may be damaged or stolen), nothing breakable, power-banks limited. Beware it can get lost and is treated harsh.

  5. Hand luggage check list: • Travel documents • snacks if needed, but no gels/liquids > 100 ml • Pen to fill in arrival/departure cards • Charged GSM • Emergency clothes (underwear) in case luggage is delayed or lost • Paper handkerchiefs • Passport copy • Booklet with itenerary: hotel/residence addresses • Wallet: • ID card: not needed but may be helpful • Student card • Cash equivalent of € 200-300, 500 RMB for the ‘pot’ • Bank card, Credit card (activated for outside Europe) • Health insurance details and phone numbers; your blood type • Passport copy

  6. Check-in luggage (big bag, 23 kg max, max size l + b + h = 158 cm) • - Label luggage with your name, address etc. • Toilet bag with: tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo/shower gel, nail cutter, shaving, moisturing cream etc. • Toilet paper • Good shoes: we will walk a lot • Clothes: for 10-25 ºC temperatures • Decent clothes: for company visits and Embassy: ‘as if you have a job interview’ : no t-shirt, shorts, jeans.. • (hand..) washing powder • Socks: you may need to take your shoes off • Rain protection (good jacket, umbrella) • Small towel (hotel supply them, but just in case) • Anti-sunburn • Small first-aid kit; maybe share with roommate • Passport copy • Optional: swim gear (maybe few opportunities), ear plugs (for night train), small games • Personal health care things: medicine, for stomach etc. • Adaptor • Bag for carry around (if different from hand-luggage bag) • Room for presents • Do not take this list as complete; think yourself

Please do not take or have with you: • Bed sheets: provided by hotels/trains etc. • Alcoholic drinks • Drugs (may ruin the life of yourself and your family) • (absolutely forbidden in China, years imprisonment as punishment) • Explosives, weapons (obvious, but still..) • Lighters • Magnetic toys on way back (gives troubles) • Keep to a minimum: • Keys, Local discount cards, etc.: anything you need at home but not in China
