  3. Definition of Strategic PlanningStrategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does and why it does it

  4. The Realities of Planning Plan should anchor System decisions Forces override planning The “landscape” changes Plan should be flexible

  5. Meet state needs for public accountability • Meet institutional and system planning needs • Guided by planning assumptions • Focused on Key Priorities and “vital few” goals

  6. By March 2010, the Board will act on the system plan By September 2010, the Board will act on the institutional strategic plans

  7. Identified, collected, and analyzed data for SWOT analysis • Established website at http://sp.tbr.edu • Identified focal areas of Enrollment/Persistence, Institutional Quality, Affordability, and External Influences • Reported to the SWOT team around such areas as student success measures, financial aid, campus resources, campus environment

  8. Identified Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats • Identified themes in findings relevant to focal areas • The analysis suggested • what we need to build upon, what we need to change, what areas we can optimize, and what areas need to managed or countered • Led to the suggested key planning assumptions • Submitted report to Oversight Committee that includes S.W.O.T. analysis, themes, and planning assumptions

  9. Receive the input from SWOT analysis • Adopt the key planning assumptions • Recommend the vision, mission, and key priorities • Recommend one or two key goals for each key priority
