What is bullying • The emotional tear down from one to another due to lack of self confidence • Punching, shoving, & other acts that hurt people • Spreading bad rumors about people • Keeping certain people out of a “group” • Teasing people in a mean way • Getting certain people to “gang up” on others

  3. What is Cyber Bullying • Sending mean text, email, or instant messages • Posting nasty pictures or messages about others in blogs or on web pages • Using someone else’s name to spread rumors or lies about someone

  4. Why Kids Bully • Other kids do it • Want to hang out with the right crowd • Makes them feel stronger, better, smarter, then the other person • Keeps them from being bullied • Lack of self confidence • To feel in control of something in their life

  5. Statistic and Effects • Students skip school or drop out • Bully others • Smoke, drink, fight • Have problems later in life • 87% of students say shootings are motivated by a desirer to get back at those who hurt them • 77% of students have been bullied • 14% say they have experienced (bad) reaction to abuse • 15-20% of U.S. students are bullied with some frequency

  6. Teachers should look for students who are . . . • Impulsive, hot headed, dominant • Are easily frustrated • Lack empathy • Have difficulty following rules • View violence in a positive way • * Boys who bully tend to be physically stronger then the other children
