  2. What is Anxiety Anxiety is medically defined as the anticipation of future threat. Within the trials and tribulations of everyday life, occasional feelings of anxiety and stress are completely normal for people to experience. A healthy amount of anxiety can even drive a person to improve oneself in order to overcome future threats. However, when feelings of anxiety become very frequent or extreme, anxiety disorders may develop. In contrast to regular anxiety, anxiety disorders are characterized as sharing features of excessive behavioral disturbances such as fear, which is an emotional response to real or perceived imminent threat.

  3. Symptoms Of Anxiety Everyone become anxious at one point or another about specific things. Giving a presentation at work, fear of flying, nervousness due to a job interview or an upcoming competitive race are all common examples of “everyday” anxiety among most people. This type of healthy anxiety is transient and does not affect people on a daily basis. Some of these healthy anxiety triggers help us complete tasks and deadlines while others help us avoid danger. However, when these feelings of worry and restlessness become so frequent and severe that they begin to take over your life, then this turns into a pathologic disorder. (855) 972-9459

  4. Causes of Anxiety Anxiety is often caused by the stressful situations of life, whether it’s associated with work, financial hardship, marital troubles or divorce or other daily challenges. Traumatic events, such as a loss of a loved one or witnessing an accident, can trigger intense anxiety. Anxiety can also be caused by a mental health condition, physical conditions, side effects from a medication, brain chemistry, genetics or substance abuse. info@anxietytreatmentcentersofcalifornia.com (855) 972-9459

  5. Types Of Anxiety General Anxiety Social Anxiety Social Anxiety Disorder manifests as a fear of interacting with other people. Victims are often convinced that friends and strangers dislike them or judge them in a negative light even when reassured otherwise. Social anxiety is distinct from shyness in that it significantly debilitates a person’s life. Symptoms include an intense fear of humiliation, avoidance of unfamiliar people and always expecting the worst in a social situation. (855) 972-9459 General Anxiety Disorder is characterized by excessive worry that occurs day after day. Although some stress in life is to be expected, people with this disorder experience anxiety more frequently and with a greater intensity than people without this disorder. Even if a victim is aware that their anxiety is unreasonable, they are unable to control it. Symptoms include an increased startle response, difficulty sleeping and headaches. info@anxietytreatmentcentersofcalifornia.com

  6. Types Of Anxiety Panic Disorders phobias A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear. Common phobias include fear of spiders, blood, needles and clowns. Some people who experience phobias do not need medical attention, but others may require intervention, especially if the phobia has a significantly negative impact on their lives. Symptoms include uncontrollable panic when exposed to the source of the phobia, avoidance and an inability to function. (855) 972-9459 Panic Disorders are marked by regular, unprovoked episodes of intense fear. Physical symptoms of panic attacks are often extreme and may resemble a heart attack. People who struggle with panic attacks often experience a fear of impending doom, difficulty breathing and chest pain. The fear of a panic attack itself is often enough to trigger one. Some people have only a few panic attacks over the course of their lives, but others suffer from them much more frequently. info@anxietytreatmentcentersofcalifornia.com

  7. Treatment There are several different anxiety disorders that exist, each with its own unique characteristics, and most respond well to two types of treatment: psychotherapy and medication. These treatments can be given alone, but are usually prescribed in combination. Treatment for anxiety can offer significant relief from symptoms. However, depending on the specific anxiety disorder, it is not always a permanent cure and may require monitoring for a period of time. www.anxietytreatmentcentersofcalifornia.com
