  1. Dr Kristina Head, Broad Based Trainnee CT1 (kristina.head@nhs.net) Dr George Morris, Broad Based Trainnee CT1 (georgemorris@nhs.net) Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Broad based training (BBT) is a new core training program designed to equip trainee doctors with skills and experience to manage increasingly complex patients at the interface between primary and secondary care [1]. The pilot is being coordinated by the North Western Deanery and is occurring nationally in 7 deaneries including Severn. Structure of the programme There are four trainees in the Severn Deanery involved in the two year program where four six month rotations in paediatrics, general practice, psychiatry and core medical training are covered. Upon completion of the programme trainees enter into one of the above specialities at CT2 or ST2 level of training in the same deanery without any further competition. Broad Based TrainingHave you been asked about this new core training programme? What do trainees and trainees think so far? As two of the trainees based in Gloucestershire we surveyed the career aspirations, initial experiences and expectations of both trainees and trainers involved in the Severn Deanery. This included questions about programme organisation, the teaching and the awareness of BBT. We aim to re-survey at the middle and end of the programme to follow career aims and learn from experiences Why BBT? Experiences so far Training outcomes • Trainees reasons for choosing BBT • Time to decide career path • Working with community patients • Exposure to new specialties • Participating in the development of a new programme • Trainers reasons for involvement in BBT • Exciting prospect • Desire to attract trainees to specialty • Prior involvement in designing programme 1: Poor  5: Excellent How BBT participants are describing the programme Key Messages BBT is a new and exciting pilot training scheme. We aim to promote awareness of its merits whilst working with the education team to ensure the Severn Deanery programme continues to develop as successfully as possible.
