Advanced Placement Exams • Each AP exam contains multiple choice questions and a free response section • AP exams enable students to demonstrate their mastery of college level course work • Strong performance on AP exams is recognized by more than 600 universities worldwide • 90% of 4 year colleges and universities in the United States grant student credit and/or placement on the basis of AP scores • Research shows that students who score 3 or higher typically experience greater academic success in college and higher education rates than their non-AP student peers. Placement in AP Courses • STAR test scores, grades, attendance, prior preparation in area of study are considerations. • AP contract • AP Test Fees: subject to change in 2010/2011, but are $86.00 per AP test this year, $5.00 for students qualifying for Free/Reduced lunch. All students in AP courses will be expected to pay appropriate fees in 2010/2011 within the first week of school. Educational Services May 11, 2010

AP Courses Not Offered at DHS • Chinese Language and Culture (Students can take Chinese at CACC School on Saturdays at AVHS) • Japanese Language and Culture • German Language • Spanish Literature (We offer Spanish Language) • Latin: Vergil • Studio Art (Students may submit portfolios in consultation with Mrs. Johnson) • Music Theory • Physics B. (We offer Physics C: Mechanics and some students also prepare for Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism) • Art History • Comparative Government and Politics (We offer United States Government and Politics) • Computer Science A (May be part of Engineering pathway eventually) • Macroeconomics (Students may take this at ATDP in summer. We offer Microeconomics) • World History (European History is offered) • Human Geography Educational Services May 11,2010

  9. Data Points on 2010 AP Exams • 223 students took 445 AP tests. In 2009, 206 students took 363 AP tests • 43 students qualified for AP exam fee reductions this year, compared to 3 last year Educational Services May 11, 2010
