  1. Algae Photobioreactor Team 12

  2. Problem Statement • Concerned with CO2 released to the atmosphere. • CO2 scrubbing equipment is expensive • CO2 storage is not economically feasible • Current petro based fuels are unsustainable and increasingly expensive According to the IPCC, capturing and compressing CO2 would increase the fuel needs of a coal-fired plant with CCS by 25%-40%

  3. Solution • An inexpensive photobioreactor • Algae grows while capturing CO2 • Sunlight does the remainder of the work • Biomass is used as an energy source

  4. Clientele • Power generating companies that burn fossil fuels • Chemical plants with CO2 in purge streams • Organizations with on-site power generation

  5. Profitability • Sell or lease photobioreactors to clients • Design and install applications to meet specific company needs • Algal biomass can be sold or processed into a biofuel

  6. Profitability for end user • Eliminates the need for costly carbon sequestration processes • Carbon tax savings • Selling algal biomass for process into biofuel

  7. Alternatives to buyers • Carbon capture • Subterranean injection • Artificial trees • Basalt Storage • Biofuel alternatives • Cellulosic • Ethanol

  8. Qualifications • Members with experience in biofuels research • Members with experience in fuel processing industry • Experience with process development • Contacts in biochemistry and biology fields
