  2. Biography of Pachacuti • Pachacuti was the son of the eighth Inca King, Viracocha. • In 1438 an enemy from the north attacked the capital city of Cuzco.

  3. Biography of Pachacuti • Viracocha fled, but Pachacuti stayed behind to defend Cuzco and defeated this northern enemy. • Due to this courageous victory, Pachacuti became the ninth king of the Incan Empire.

  4. Biography of Pachacuti • At first, Pachacuti concentrated on expanding the Inca Empire. • When he wanted to conquer a kingdom, he first sent messengers to tell the local rulers about all of the benefits of being part of the Incan Empire and asked them to join willingly. • .

  5. Biography of Pachacuti • If these local rulers accepted Pachacuti’s offer, they were treated with respect and given rights. • If they refused, the Incas would attack in a brutal display of destruction.
